First Night of Cool Weather

For months now it has been so hot and two sheets on the bed has been more than efficient. Last night however I felt cold in the bed and had to throw a doona (duvet) on the bed.

I hope this weather isn’t an indicator that winter is going to be extremely cold. When the temperature drops below 10 degrees celsius my body goes into shut down mode. Personally I prefer weather that your body can function in comfortably.

The best solution over winter is to get up off the couch and get active. Boring jobs like vacuuming, washing dishes or cleaning the bathroom can become a pleasure in the winter months. If you can’t face these horrible jobs how about going for a brisk walk maybe a bike ride ore even mow that lawn!

Exercise promotes good blood flow and can help warm up those cold hands and feet. Maybe your partner might thank you over the winter season for not being a popsicle or a blanket hog.

Summer Survival Kit

Summer in Spain can be a scorching experience especially if you’re not used to heat in excess of 40 degrees celsius.

If you come from a cooler climate and happen to be holidaying or make the decision to move to Spain you will need a Summer survival pack. Most of us already have a Summer survival pack but prefer not to implement it into our daily lives.

To survive the Spanish heat the first thing I try and do is stay indoors wherever possible especially in the height of Summer. Reducing your amount of sun exposure is important as the burn time is less than 5 minutes.

I’m the sunscreen queen before I leave the house, I apply eye sunscreen, face and body sunscreen and a lip sunscreen. I prefer to use 50+ as I have pale skin and prefer maximum protection against skin disease. If you hate the smell of feel of sunscreen on your arms wear a light long shirt made from 100% cotton. There are sunscreens available that are oil and perfume free if your skin is sensitive.

Wearing a wide brimmed hat and wrap around UV protected sunglasses will also aid in your survival. Maybe you won’t look or feel as sexy but I am sure with trendy sunglasses and hats available you can step out of your home and own it.

Another important survival tool is water and lots of it. The heat is overwhelming and if you don’t rehydrate your body you can wind up with a massive headache or worse heat exhaustion.

One thing I have taken notice of is the locals they don’t seem to wear hats. Although people who have olive skin seem to cope better in these conditions I still recommend protecting yourself against the elements.
