I have to hand it to the Chinese, the opening show for the 2008 Olympic games was spectacular, the colours, acrobatics, and lights were so incredibly impressive. The fireworks were bigger than big and I can only imagine how many millions of dollars it cost to put on this show.
Wouldn’t it have been great to watch the show in the stadium instead of just on TV? Mind you everything I’ve read about air pollution in China makes me glad I was at home watching it from the comfort of the couch.
But I do think China should be congratulated on getting the stadium finished in time, I mean the last games in Athens were touch and go right up to the opening ceremony but China has been able to build their infrastructure without those problems.
Now I can’t wait to see what the athletes do, I wonder if we’ll see many world records this year, and I wonder if they’ll mostly be split second improvements like we’ve had for the last few years or if any athlete will be able to shave a bit more time off records. Wouldn’t it be great to see a 100m sprinter break the world record by another half second or more?
