Of course you should make sure their coloring pages contain Easter themes to keep the Easter magic alive for them. Pages with Easter bunnies, chocolate eggs, or Christian themed pages are ideal, and they’ll love practicing their outlining and coloring in. With my own nephews and nieces I always encourage them to use bright colors and not worry too much about being exact or making their picture look realistic, mostly because I love seeing their art on my fridge and it always looks better with bold bright colors. My sister and I would frantically race around collecting as many Easter eggs as we could find. Of course it was never quite that easy, I always ended up with the least amount of chocolate eggs, as my sister had a sharp eye and she could run faster than me.

Easter egg hunts seemed a little unfair, as my sister was older than me, but despite that, seeking out chocolate eggs was a lot of fun. After the chocolate egg hunt was over we would put all the eggs together, and then mum would share them evenly amongst us. Sharing is always a good thing, thanks mum, but finding the Easter eggs was the part that I enjoyed the most.

We had Easter egg hunts every year, but one year the Easter bunny had hidden all of the eggs in the garden. This year was so much fun, because I knew all the best hiding spots, as I use to spend hours in the garden. It was a memorable Easter as this year I had collected the most eggs.

Out of all the Easter eggs my favorite is still the chocolate bunny rabbit. The milk chocolate just melts away in your mouth. The best part of the chocolate rabbit is the ears, as the chocolate is so thick and yummy.

Besides this hollow chocolate bunny rabbit, we also received, round chocolate eggs filled with candy, sugar eggs or small hollow chocolate eggs wrapped in bright colored foil, just like the kids get today. From memory I’m sure ours tasted better as the chocolate wasn’t as sweet.

In the future when I have kids of my own, I plan to keep Easter egg hunts a tradition in my family, as it’s a fun activity that the whole family can enjoy.

In the early days of Christianity it was dangerous to practice one’s faith when the majority of the population in the Roman Empire were pagan, so early Christians piggy backed their religious festivities onto existing festivals. The Resurrection of Christ adopted the date of the festival of Eastre as its time of year.

Eastre in Saxon mythology was the Earth Goddess, but in Roman times also coincided with the goddess Aphrodite, both of whom were the goddesses of fertility. Other goddesses connected with fertility were Ishtar, Kali, Demeter, Hathor, Ashtoreth and the Norse goddess Ostara.

Of course in history of this sort there are always other viewpoints, and some experts believe the name Easter is a corruption of ancient words that simply meant sunrise, but we’ll never know for certain, though since pagan festivals fell at the same time of year it seems reasonable that our explanation would be correct.

The spring equinox is the traditional time to celebrate Eastre, and is a time of rebirth, we see this in the trees regaining their leaves, or wild flowers growing and filling mountainsides, and in the birth of young animals, the springtime lambs being the most well known.

So the next time you think of Easter and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, let your mind reflect on the time of year when everything is reborn, and remember that historically, the festival was called Eastre.

The History of Easter

When someone that Trick or Treats comes knocking at your door what better way to greet them, than with spooky bats hanging from the inside of your door frame. The bats won’t be expected and it will give them a real fright. To make these spooky bat decorations, you’ll first need to download the Halloween bat stencils to your desktop. Once you have downloaded the bat stencils you can print them onto durable white crafting card.

Using durable crafting card it makes the bat Halloween stencils outline easier for the kids to see, and a lot sturdier for little hands to work with.

The kids will love this part, cutting out the bats stencils. Just make sure the children are supervised by an adult and get them to use child safety scissors to avoid accidents. Kids will be kids!!!

With some black crafting card, place the Halloween bat stencils on top of the card and then trace around them until you have as many scary bats as you need. Using a white pencil or a silver pen will make it a lot easier to see the bat shape on the black card. Having traced them it’s time to cut

Once all of your Halloween bat stencils are cut it’s time to fix them to the top of your door frame. You’ll either need some clear jewellery making thread or some trusty fishing line.

Parents make a small hole in each Halloween bat to pass the thread through and then tie a knot. To make your front entrance interesting vary the lengths of the thread. To fix your black bats to the door frame use some clear tape or double sided tape. Being at the door maybe double sided tape is better as it will have a stronger hold against the wind and when you come and go from the house.

Not all of us are skilled enough to draw a star, maybe an odd looking one, this is why I have made it very easy for you. Just double click on the black and white star clip art and print it off onto standard printer paper or thicker paper if you prefer.
