Designing 125×125 banners

125x125

125x125

How often do you come across a site with 125×125 banners on them, or maybe you see them on every site because drop Entrecards, and a lot of the time they look really terrible.

I know some people don’t have the expertise to produce a good looking banner, but why on earth would you settle for something that does nothing for you. Let’s put aside the quality of the banner and only look at them from a marketing point of view.

125 pixels isn’t very big so it’s important to make sure you make good use of it to get traffic. If you look at a lot of banners, many don’t have any text whatsoever, perhaps just a photo of the author or some icon. How many of these relate to their website at all? Well, who can say? If the image on a 125×125 banner doesn’t include either text ora visual representation of your main keyword, it won’t be as effective.

These days with Entrecard having a real value I think it’s important to maximise the number of clicks you get so even if you can’t design a button, at least use a background color or image and put your main keyword on the banner. I guarantee you’ll get more traffic because of it.

Pixabella05 new header image in dark orange

Sunburst

Sunburst

New header images for the Pixabella05 template (known as Hawaii for Blogger) have been something I’ve been meaning to produce, and a few of the people who use this template keep asking for them as well so I’m working on a few.

I’m also working on a new smoky brown theme using the same layout as Pixabella05 and I hope to have that available within the next couple of weeks.

Anyway, here is the new header for the orange version of pixabella05, hope you like it. To download the image simply click the image and when the full size version loads just right click and select save as.

To use the image in your theme, open styleorange.css and look for #logo, then simply change bannerorange.png to this sunburst_squiggle.png

That’s it!

Navbars with background images – tutorial

Navbar

Navbar

I’ve produced a few sets of navbar images for free download dark, light, frosty, and original. In this tutorial I’m going to explain how to use them in your own site design.

This screenshot is taken directly from one of my free html templates. The HTML to create this is a basic list of links but without the CSS it looks quite boring, just a link, then a new line and another link and so on, however, once the CSS is added, you get an attractive navbar.

Dark Navbar

This is my last set of gradient navbar images, I’m not sure how popular these have been since nobody has commented but since they took me a few minutes to produce it seemed like an easy thing to make them available for free download.

Anyway, hope you like them, download the dark navbar zipfile (nav-images). Read my tutorial on how to use these images.
