Rugs, Rugs, and More Rugs

In our house we have terracotta floor tiles which look fantastic and are easy to clean but they're hard, not just for walking on, but also when you sit on the floor, and that's why we love having soft Rugs in the living room.

When we have guests over, or even if we just want to relax and listen to music or read a book, sitting on a cushion on the floor can be so much more comfortable, so of course those terracotta tiles need to be softened up.

Of course it isn't just tiles that are hard on the body. In our last house we had polished wooden floors and they were every bit as bad until we put down the rugs.
We debated with getting fitted carpet but we like being able to lift a rug and mop the floor of dust and of course with a rug you can vacuum both sides or even take it outside and beat it to get the dust out. Not something you can do with carpet.

Also, and this is something we really like about rugs, the patterns and colors seem to be so much more varied than carpet. I tend to like warm earth tones and Moroccan or oriental patterns while the man likes his traditional European reds and blues. I'm not stupid enough to let him have his way too often but he did get to have a red rug under his desk.

In the bedroom we only need little Area Rugs on either side of the bed, despite the fact it's summer the floors can still be quite cold at other times of the year and who wants to doing acrobatics to try and find your slippers just so you won't have to get your feet on the cold floor.

The only real issue I have with rugs is that they can be quite expensive at times, but if you shop online you can get Cheap Rugs at very good prices. Oh, and here's one last reason for liking rugs. As a designer of websites and background images you can get some great inspiration from the patterns in rugs.
