Re-roofing? Make sure you check for Asbestos

Despite the slow down in the economy I see a lot of buildings being renovated, on the outskirts of town a bunch of old factories are being converted into loft style apartments which will be really nice once they're done.

When we were living in Australia that was all the rage, converting old warehouses into residential apartments or new commercial shopping centers, but a lot of these old buildings have asbestos in the roof which is really scary that the dust can be easily disturbed. Asbestos Removal is very difficult to do, and you basically need a professional to do it for you.

This is because asbestos dust is so fine, and when it gets into your lungs it causes horrible damage that can take 10 years or more to manifest, not sure why it stays there and doesn't leave your body like other things, but it doesn't.

Of course in an older building that is structurally sound you'd mostly want to just seal the asbestos under a new roof, but if its too badly damaged from the weather and the sun beating down on it then it has to be removed.

So do yourself a favour, if you're renovating a building and need to remove an asbestos roof, get a professional to do it, why risk your own health when somebody else is already trained to remove it without risking theirs.
