Maria Soledad Vela, a women's rights heroine

I have a new hero, Maria Soledad Vela, a lady in Ecuador who is part of the group of people rewriting their national constitution, and who has proposed an amendment making it a right for a woman to enjoy sex.

Well I couldn't agree more, we're not just baby-making factories you know, which is exactly what she's campaigning against.

Of course a certain part of the Ecuadorian population is not very happy and is calling her names, some have even joked that men might even be charged with human rights abuses if they can't give a woman an orgasm, but that's the kind of typical response you'd expect from people who don't like change.

Maria has said they've taken the amendment right out of context, she just wants women to have the right to make their own decision without being pressured, and she wants women to have to right to learn about contraception and responsible sex.

Ladies we are so lucky living in the western world where we can take equal rights for granted. I'd love to visit Ecuador but I'm not sure I could live there if those are the restrictions women face. Go Maria!

I think she's an idiot. She's trying to mess with a system that has been around fo years. If women really want to enjoy sex there's nothing stopping them. Men have an urgent need which needs to be fulfilled and women are there to fulfill that need. It would be shocking and irresponsible if women were allowed to tip the balance and be able to dictate requirements to their husbands with the man presumably having no choice but to comply.

Thanks for your comment, let me guess, with a name like James you must be male?

what difference does that make?..but yes i am male and proud of it..which seems to be a rarity these days. Ecuador is a very patriarchal society and that's the way it functions. Any suggestion that women should be able to dictate terms to men would be destabilizing.

Ecuador may be a patriarchal society but it certainly doesn't need to remain one. I applaud this Maria's efforts to highlight women's rights and particularly the right to choose to deny a man his release from his urgent need. Men need to learn that women are not here to be subservient, we are the equal of any man,

Women are not the equal of men and were never meant to be..thats why they are built differently..women were meant to be subservient to men..It's feminists who are basically trying to disrupt nature by eroding the power of men...I've been reading other articles on this subject saying that Soledad Vela believes women should be able to sue their husbands if they don't satisfy them..Even you must agree that's totally unacceptable. What kind of woman would sue her husband..Mine certainly wouldn't dare!!..Men are naturally disposed to always enjoy sex..There's no way they can't..It is not the same for women..if they happen to enjoy sex they should regard it is a bonus..This women has really annoyed me..She simply wants to humiliate men which is a positive step maybe for women but is detrimenntal for men. Men are already being attacked in the workplace..It is now happening in the home.
