Laptop vs Desktop Computer Clutter

For years I had a PC with some type of work station to house all the bits and pieces. It did serve it's purpose but it took up an enormous amount of space, and in some cases a whole room was dedicated to a so-called study.

To me a desk is ugly and they aren't exactly designed to house all the bits and pieces you require. Sure they are easy to put together but when you move them around they change shape and start to wobble everywhere. Say goodbye to that once sturdy desk.

Since owning a laptop I've done away with workstations, office chairs and a ton of cables. To me an existing draw or cupboard works perfectly and when I am feeling lazy it sits on the dining or coffee table.

To me this sounds appealing and frees up another room in the house for a dedicated movie/entertainment area, guest room, hobby/craft area or a baby nursery if you're contemplating having children. In the greater scheme of things if you thought your house was to small here is a perfect way to reduce clutter.

Give me a job as a rain caller!

I joke about the meteorologists saying I wish I had their job, because half the time they get it wrong. Open the window, stick your head out, and predict the weather. Ok maybe it's not as simple as that, I'm sure they need their whiz bang technical gadgets to detect rain.

For me the window works fine. Once I get used to the climate in a different country my weathervane kicks in. Call it women's intuition or being plain out weird it works for me. I am sure I am not alone on this one.

My weather detecting skills have saved me many a time from my car being pummeled by hail stones, or just knowing when to wear suitable clothing, and my favourite, knowing when to wash clothes.

My family joke about me being a rain caller, it could be a bright sunny day and as soon as I hang out clothes the clouds roll in. Maybe I could make a living out of becoming a rain caller. Call it coincidence or what ever you like but in my travels to date the countries that I lived in for long stints have all experienced record high rainfall.

Some might see it as me being jinxed and others might see it as a gift I just see it as, well I am kind of lost for words. I guess when I settle down somewhere it will have to be on a hill top so there is no chance of being flooded. Just need to watch out for lightning and hail stones as big as golf balls.

Fantastic crop circles

Crop Circles
Crop circles are one those oddities that seem to occur with out any explanation. No two patterns are the same but there do seem to be some common sites in the UK where these crop circles manifest.

Two counties in the UK, Wiltshire and Hampshire, have the most reported sightings and acoustics from these crop formations. In reported sightings people have heard humming and trilling like tones whilst these intricate circles are being formed.

Unfortunately this subject is controversial and tends to attract a few eccentric types who try to dilute scientists findings, look at Hilmarton Formation for example. What are these jokers trying to prove, can't they see they are muddying the waters for Scientists to unlock this mystery.

What I find really strange is most of the reported and documented finds seem to occur in clusters within the Wiltshire and Hampshire counties, and for what reason? I am no scientist but I wonder if they have explored magnetic leylines in comparison to the positioning of the finds.

Why are these manifestations cleansing crops to provide us with seeds that grow faster, taller and healthier. Is this our answer to cleaner, greener crop farming? How can scientists utilise this energy? Are aliens or people from the future sending us a message?

Other people's children

I should start by saying I don't have kids of my own, but I'm also not an old biddie, we're just not ready to start a family yet, so why do I get so annoyed with other people's children.

We live in a town house type complex where each house has its own patio overlooking a communal garden and swimming pool, and its is there that the holiday makers let their kids scream and shout and generally be annoying.

This morning we had to deal with two little terrors who were running around with giant water guns which they were refilling from the pool and then shooting each other with. Except they weren't just shooting each other, they were also shooting all the plants.

Now kids don't understand how bad that is, but why aren't their parents keeping control of them. The water in the pool is filled with Chlorine and other nasty chemicals that kill plants.

Yesterday these same brats were bouncing a ball on the concrete and it was like a drum banging being one of those inflatable pool balls. What a terrible noise!

But the worst of all of this is the constant yelling at their parents to get their attention so they can show off. The parents have obviously learned to tune out, but spare a thought for the those of us who don't want to be disturbed by other people's kids!

Time of day when I'm creative

My significant other and I have this little debate going whether I am more creative in the evening or during the day. I prefer designing at night when I have alone time and I quite enjoy being a night creature.

Obviously he disagrees because he is a day person and believes I should convert to his ways as I would be more productive and wouldn't sleep into... well lets say late.

There are two sides to this story, "Grandpa" goes to bed early between 9-10.30 at night and gets up at sparrows fart. He works on his computer first thing in the morning right up until I surface (his wording) out of bed and wander downstairs.

He usually makes some smart remark like "Aw you're up so we can have breakfast now". Of course you can read my mind at this point, I haven't even had my first cup of coffee or been to the toilet. Dangerous words his muttering, that's why I ignore him, he is so lucky.

If he could only see this from my point of view, we'd spend less time bickering and more time being productive. If you love logic you're going to love his idea of being logical.

Picture this; winter time go to bed earlier and get up early 4-4:30 am and freeze your bits off. Not me, I am tucked up in bed all nice and cosey. When it's Summer he gets up at 6-6:30 am huh... Where's the logic in that and they say women are complicated.

Drink filtered water, it is better for you and your appliances

My filtered water jug and I are going to be best buddies this Summer in Spain. It holds two liters of cold lush water which filters all the impurities right out of it.

Here in Andalucia I have noticed the drinking water is very hard and contains high levels of calcium and lime. Since coming to Spain my poor kettle has had a hard life. After every second boil the kettle fills with lime and calcium chunks and it needs to be washed out. When I look in my kettle it makes me want to gag. This screams out health warning to me!!

Besides wasting water and cleaning it out, it's a real power muncher because the element keeps getting clogged up with scale. This kettle has a mind of its own, it takes to long to boil or the water isn't hot enough or its latest trick is halarious. Your relaxing it's nice a peaceful and bam out of nowhere it turns on makes a horrible noise and begins to boil water. Great if it could make me the coffee too. LOL!

Sad to say :) I have retired my kettle and have bought myself an Espresso machine. It's a hard life trading in a kettle for an Espresso machine, but someone has to do it.

Now I can enjoy Espresso coffee that is filtered which is healthier and make refreshing cold drinks in the Summer.

Return to Krondor is one of my favourite computer games

Return to Krondor
I was asked about my favourite computer game while out with friends, and it seemed like it would make a great post. Now you can call me old fashioned in the computer gaming world but my favourite games would have to be Return to Krondor.

Return to Krondor is a computer role-playing game set in Raymond Feist's fantasy world of Midkemia. The game is an oldie but a goodie and it was first released in 1998 for PC based computers.

This game is centered around a ruthless mercenary Bear who's in pursuit of the Tear of the Gods. The Tear of Gods is a holy artifact with great powers. As the role player you take on the part of Squire James of Krondor, to stop this mercenary.

On your quest you will encounter battles, spells, death, destruction, dark powers, make friends, collect items to sell, increase your skills all while trying to stop Bear and save the artifact.

Most role players would of heard of this game as it's part of the D&D world. Unfortunately this game is for the PC user so I had to buy Parallels for my Mac so I could play it. Sad but true, a girl can't go without her favourite game and her Mac.
