Summer holidays, oh joy, here in Spain they last for two and a half months from early late June or early July till early or mid September.
I'm sure it's wonderful for the kids, no school time at the hottest time of the year, but it must be hell on the parents. Certainly it's hell on the people who live in the vicinity of homes owned by non-resident owners since a great many of them let holiday agencies let their properties for short stays of a few days.
The thing is that short stay holiday makers are determined to make the most of the few days they have with a pool and grassy garden, to the detriment of people who live here all year round.
We know that kids like to have fun in he pool, and we know that families like to have BBQs together, we know that most mean no harm to us, but the noise levels go though the roof and unless they're being really obnoxious there is precious little we can do about it. And that is frustrating.
So, if you're a non-resident owner of a holiday home in the Mediterranean, please spare a thought for the permanent residents near your home, please make sure your holiday tenants have a set of rules they must abide by, the least of which is that when they see their neighbors turn off the lights at night they should seriously think of doing the same thing because we aren't on holiday even if they are.
