Sometimes I really hate computer keyboards, they never seem to have enough characters on them, and the English keyboard in particular doesn't include Spanish or German special characters like the äü¿ etc.
Living in Spain, but also having family in Germany, I often need to type these characters, so for the benefit of people with Mac English keyboards, the umlaut characters are produced by holding option and u together, releasing, and then pressing the vowel that you want to generate the umlauted version (äü).
The German double S (ß) is typed by holding function and option together then pressing the s key.
The upside down question mark (¿) can be found by holding shift and option and the question mark key. The upside down exclamation mark (¡) is typed by holding the function key and option key together and then pressing the exclamation mark.
The Spanish eñe (ñ) is typed by pressing option and n, releasing, then pressing n again.
